"From the keyboard of "Dear Christine"
Welcome to the first edition of Dear Christine, our new quarterly supplement designed especially for the medical students who are looking for medical career advice.
So, who is Christine and is she really "dear" or "a dear"?
Christine is a real person and is the Career Adviser at the AMA. Christine's role is to make sure you get the best advice, and create the finest documents to support you as you progress through your medical career, from medical student to really, truly, a doctor. No matter where you are in your medical career, chances are you're in need of a little motivation to get to the next step - be it practical tips to survive medical school, to go for the job you'll actually love waking up for, or to just push through a rough day at med school. Christine should become your best friend through your medical career life cycle.
Dear Christine, it has been suggested that I should start creating my CV, and I don't know where to start. Do you have any resources you can share with me to do this?
Dear Freda (not a real advice seeker), I certainly can help you and that's my role. So first up, attached are two important documents: the CV template and CV build guide. It is important that you give a short word picture of who you are, why you are studying medicine, and what you think you can bring to the profession. These will go into your "personal statement", which is the lead on your CV.
The "extra service" for AMA student members is that a CV review is included in the suite of services offered, and for which there is no additional charge. So, explore the benefits of membership and join up if you are not a member. If you are, then please send me your CV for review when you are finished your first draft. Together, we will create a first class document that will showcase you in a manner that will ensure you get noticed in a positive way.
Looking forward to hearing from you ... Christine (firstname.lastname@example.org)"
