The President of the AMA in South Australia, Dr Chris Moy, has contributed to national opposition to the Federal Government's proposal to test welfare recipients for a range of drugs.

The AMA position is that the testing stigmatises people for their use of drugs, whether they have long-term problems with addiction or are one-off or occasional users.

The AMA also opposes a policy that would direct a large proportion of already inadequate drug treatment facilities and resources away from the people who really need ongoing treatment and care.
